–       Chew food slowly and thoroughly with the mouth closed to avoid intake of air.

–       Drink warm water to which ½ tsp dried ginger powder and a pinch of asafetida and rock salt is added.  Ginger helps relieving stomach problems and asafetida aids in reducing gas formation.

–       Add a drop of dill oil to 1 tsp of honey and take this after every meal to treat flatulence.  Dill acts as an anti-spasmodic, digestive aid, and helps in expelling gas.

–       Peppermint tea helps to reduce flatulence.  Menthol present in it is beneficial in tackling gas problems.  Boil 3 cups of water.  Place 12-15 leaves in a pot and pour the water over it.  Steep for 5 min.  Strain and drink.

–       Cardamom is a digestive stimulant.  Sautee it with vegetables while cooking or add while brewing your normal cup of tea.

–       Cinnamon is commonly used as a digestive aid.  Boil water to which some cinnamon sticks are added and simmer for half an hour.  After every meal drink ½ a cup of this water to treat flatulence problems.

–       Fennel seed stimulates good digestion.  Add ½ tsp of fennel seeds to 1 cup of boiling water.  Simmer for 10 min, strain and drink for flatulence relief.

–       Sage promotes good digestion and eases gas pains.  It goes well with fatty foods as it encourages digestion of animal fat.  It can be used raw or the dried herb can be used to flavor soups, stews, salads and the like.  Boil a cup of water.  Remove from flame and add 4 tbsp of dried sage.  Steep for 4 hours.  Strain and drink cold or warm it up again.

–       Yogurt contains good bacteria, acidophilus, that aids in digestion and eliminates flatulence.  Consume home-made, unsweetened, unflavored yogurt on a regular basis.

–       Pelvic floor exercises are at times recommended to strengthen pelvic muscles and control passing of gas.  Squeeze the rectal and vaginal muscles and hold tightly for as long as possible.  This can be done both while sitting or standing.  Do 8 repetitions without resting in between.
